⚠️ IMPORTANT: READ BEFORE USING
ACCalculator.com provides estimates only. Our calculators do NOT replace professional HVAC load calculations, engineering design, or licensed contractor installation. Always consult qualified professionals before purchasing or installing HVAC equipment.
General Disclaimer
The information, calculators, tools, guides, and content ("Content") on ACCalculator.com are provided for general informational and educational purposes only. While we strive for accuracy, we make NO GUARANTEES about the completeness, reliability, or suitability of the Content for any particular purpose.
No Professional Relationship
Not Professional Advice
Use of ACCalculator.com does NOT create a professional relationship between you and us. Our Content is NOT:
- Engineering advice: We are not licensed engineers and do not provide engineering services
- Contractor recommendations: We don't perform installations or endorse specific contractors
- Legal advice: We do not interpret building codes, permits, or regulations
- Financial advice: Cost estimates are approximate and not financial planning
- Safety certifications: We do not certify equipment or installations as safe
Consult Licensed Professionals
Before making HVAC decisions, you MUST consult:
- Licensed HVAC contractors for complete Manual J load calculations
- Mechanical engineers for commercial or complex residential systems
- Building inspectors to ensure code compliance
- Energy auditors for whole-home efficiency assessments
- Electricians for electrical capacity and wiring
Calculator Limitations
Simplified Methodology
Our calculators use simplified Manual J-inspired algorithms designed for typical residential homes. They have limitations:
- Not full Manual J: Professional Manual J calculations consider 100+ variables; ours consider 10-15 major ones
- Standard construction: Assumes typical wood-frame construction, fiberglass/cellulose insulation, standard windows
- Single-zone assumptions: Does not account for complex multi-zone systems or ductwork design
- Typical climates: May be less accurate for extreme climates (Death Valley, Alaska, high altitude)
- Typical occupancy: Assumes standard residential use, not commercial or unusual applications
Inputs Determine Accuracy
Calculator accuracy depends entirely on YOUR inputs. Garbage in = garbage out. You must:
- Measure room dimensions accurately
- Correctly assess insulation quality and R-values
- Understand window orientation and shading
- Accurately count occupants and heat-generating equipment
We cannot verify your inputs and accept no responsibility for errors in data you provide.
Does Not Account For
Our calculators do NOT account for many factors professionals consider:
- Duct design, length, and insulation levels
- Specific window U-values and SHGC ratings
- Thermal mass effects (concrete, brick, earth-bermed)
- Unusual architectural features (atriums, extensive glass, thermal chimneys)
- Adjacent unconditioned spaces (garages, attics)
- Air infiltration specifics (blower door test results)
- Ventilation requirements per building codes
- Equipment derating for altitude or extreme conditions
- Existing equipment condition and performance
No Warranty of Results
Estimates Only
Calculator results are ESTIMATES, not specifications. We do not warrant that:
- Results are accurate for your specific home
- Recommended equipment sizes will perform adequately
- You will achieve expected energy savings or comfort
- Results comply with local building codes
- Our estimates match professional Manual J calculations
Potential Errors
Our calculators may contain errors, including:
- Software bugs or calculation errors
- Outdated climate data or equipment specifications
- Typos in guides or content
- Incorrect algorithm assumptions
If you find errors, please report them, but we make no guarantee of correction.

Regional Variations
Building Codes
Building codes vary by jurisdiction. Our Content may not reflect:
- Your local building, electrical, or mechanical codes
- Permit requirements for HVAC installation
- Required efficiency minimums (varies by state/region)
- Ventilation standards (some states have stricter requirements)
Always check local codes before equipment purchase or installation.
Climate Data
We use generalized climate zone data. Your specific location may differ due to:
- Microclimates (coastal, urban heat islands, elevation)
- Extreme weather events not captured in historical averages
- Climate change affecting design temperatures
DIY Warnings
Installation Requires Professionals
DO NOT attempt HVAC installation without proper licensing and training. Risks include:
- Electrical hazards: HVAC systems use high voltage—risk of electrocution
- Refrigerant handling: Requires EPA certification—illegal to vent refrigerants
- Gas connections: Improper gas work causes carbon monoxide poisoning and explosions
- Structural damage: Improper mounting can cause equipment to fall
- Voided warranties: Most manufacturers void warranties for DIY installation
- Code violations: Unpermitted work creates liability and hurts home resale value
Use Calculators Responsibly
Our calculators are for:
- ✓ Initial research and education
- ✓ Verifying contractor quotes (as a second opinion)
- ✓ Understanding sizing factors and variables
They are NOT for:
- ✗ Final equipment selection without professional input
- ✗ DIY installation specifications
- ✗ Challenging licensed contractors unless you have data to support concerns
Medical and Safety Disclaimer
Proper HVAC sizing affects health and safety. We do NOT provide medical advice. If you have:
- Respiratory conditions (asthma, COPD)
- Allergies or immune system disorders
